Leadership Change Afoot at One of the Largest State Agencies

An interim CIO was recently named at a social services department.

A personnel move between agencies has resulted in a leadership change at one of the largest state departments.

Drew McGrath has been named interim chief information officer at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), according to the department’s organization chart.

The change comes after previous CIO Lisa Petoskey took a role as an IT Division Planning and Administrative Systems Branch manager with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), according to her LinkedIn profile. She served as the DFPS CIO from January 2020 to August of this year.

DFPS’ FY 2023-2027 strategic plan — while focused on client-centered services that maximize the safety and well-being of clients, families and communities — lists “data-driven” approaches and expanding technical assistance to communities as a priority.

The department has the fourth-largest overall budget of all state agencies, and TxDOT has the second, according to Industry Navigator.*
