Industry Insider — Texas will have a member briefing with Heather Hall, CIO for Texas Workforce Commission, and deputy CIOs Jeff Peden and Judy Sandberg. The Sept. 29 eventoffers Industry Insider — Texas members the opportunity to learn more about the agency’s IT priorities and outlook.

“Our in-person member briefings with key CIOs provide a unique opportunity to gain insight into their challenges, upcoming projects and priorities,” said Mike Driessen, publisher of Industry Insider — Texas. “I encourage our members to attend and take advantage of these intimate briefings.”

In the 2022-23 fiscal year, TWC was one of the most active agencies in IT and related procurements, according to Industry Navigator* data. The agency recently modernized its vocational rehabilitation system, which helps people with disabilities prepare for, obtain and maintain employment.

The state allocations for its capital budget include about $108 million for technology. The budget lines list a child-care application, cybersecurity and workforce solutions improvements, among others.

Hall's state government experience stretches back more than 20 years; she's been with TWC since 2016. Her experience includes time at the Comptroller of Public Accounts, Department of Aging and Disability Services, the Health and Human Services Commission and the Office of the Attorney General. Peden has been with the agency since January 2016 and served as the CIO of the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services from 2004 to 2016. He is an Air Force veteran.

Sandberg has been with the agency since October 2018 and prior to that was director of the Department of Motor Vehicles Enterprise Project Management Office. She served as CIO for the Department of Aging and Disability Services from 2010 to 2014.
