Longtime State Network Manager Moves Into Analyst Role

In addition to working in public-sector IT, he is a nonprofit board member.

An Austin-area state technologist has made the move to a cybersecurity analyst role with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HSSC) this month.

Jim Bronson, who served the bulk of his state career at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), most recently was a network manager for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV).

“The cybersecurity analyst role puts all of my past experience to work,” he said. “I’ve been a network analyst working with routers and switches, a firewall guy, Windows server guy, data center services customer rep, an O365/Azure Cloud guy, an email guy both on-prem and in the cloud.”

Bronson has served at the nonprofit River City Youth Foundation for more than two decades and is vice president of the board and LAN administrator. “We are a grassroots-based organization working with ‘at-promise’ youths in the Southeast Austin/Dove Springs neighborhood,” he says in his LinkedIn profile.

“I’ve managed and mentored others,” he said, “and now I’m looking to put all this experience to work in embracing my new role.”

He holds a degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
