The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (CPA) not only serves as state tax collector and revenue estimator, but also oversees technical assets such as the state’s payroll and personnel system (CAPPS), the Broadband Development Office and the Texas SmartBuy procurement platform.

Agency CIO Jay Waldo will give an overview of agency priorities during the Nov. 16 Industry Insider — Texas Member Briefing. The CPA has about 2,500 full-time employees and a more than $340 million operating budget, and technology is infused throughout its strategic planning. Waldo has been with the state since 2000, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Bruce Hermes is the director of information technology for the Austin Transit Partnership (ATP), which was formed by the city of Austin and CapMetro after a 2020 vote to implement Project Connect. Prior to joining ATP, Hermes was the Texas Department of Agriculture CIO and spoke at a spring Industry Insider event.

These events are in-person and exclusive to Industry Insider — Texas members, who hear firsthand from IT leaders in large public agencies.
