North Texas Municipal Water District Hit by Cyber Breach

The Collin County-based water district reportedly suffered a breach in mid-November.

The North Texas Municipal Water District suffered a phone outage due to a cybersecurity breach, WFAA-8 News reported Tuesday.

The newscast references a Nov. 12 website posting that said the district was “experiencing interruption in phone service” and listed an alternative phone number.

WFAA reported that phone systems continue to be affected this week and details include:
  • The incident impacted business processes but not water and waste services
  • District officials alerted law enforcement and are working with forensic specialists
  • The investigation is ongoing
The cyber breach is not yet reflected in the Office of the Attorney General’s data security breach reporting.
