The Office of Court Administration has had a modern case management data system on its mind for a few years and is moving forward.

The Office of Court Administration (OCA) awarded Tyler Technologies with a statewide case-level data system.

HB1, the budget bill, allocated $6 million to OCA for such a system, but the September award document shows an estimated contract value of $2.6 million, according to Industry Navigator.*

For context, the agency in March requested a vendor-hosted, cloud-based, commercial off-the-shelf data system with business intelligence tools, automated programming interfaces, a user interface for case-level data submissions and the capacity to support a judicial directory.

Agency CIO Casey Kennedy said in 2023 that the current data reporting is general and not granular. The data would be transmitted from local systems to a “massive state data warehouse.”

Aspects of the data management:
  • Data must be kept in the judicial system
  • Data classification varies
  • Privacy and control are of utmost importance
OCA aims to provide resources and information for the efficient administration of the state’s judicial branch, including resources for the state’s trial courts, appellate and specialty courts, staffing and children’s courts, according to its website.
