Rodriguez Takes the Lead in McKinney’s 49-Person IT Shop

His resume includes roles in Dallas County and the cities of Denton and Garland, all in technology.

Omar Rodriguez on Monday took on the CIO responsibilities for McKinney, which has 211,397 residents and about 1,150 employees, including 49 full-time IT staffers.

Rodriguez has more than 25 years of experience in IT, the bulk in local government. He was most recently Dallas County’s assistant IT chief for procurement management, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has served as Denton Municipal Electric’s IT director and in various tech roles in Garland.

“With Omar’s extensive experience in the technology industry, we are confident that he will bring valuable insights and innovative solutions to our organization,” City Manager Paul Grimes said in a news release. “His leadership and expertise will be instrumental in driving our IT strategy forward and ensuring we continue to provide the highest level of service to our employees and residents.”

Rodriguez is a Navy veteran and holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications and an MBA with an emphasis on information systems analysis and enterprise resource planning.

Sid Hudson was the city CIO from 2016 to February of this year, according to his LinkedIn profile.

According to the 2023-24 McKinney budget, IT is looking at various projects and software including replacing a legacy VoIP system, Oracle support, Adobe licensing, a NetMotion upgrade and CrowdStrike Next-Generation Antivirus.

There was also a request for a full-time network analyst and full-time project management business analyst.
