The U.S. Department of Transportation will award the group $4 million a year for five years.

The Texas A&M Transportation Institute, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station and Texas A&M University will join the center, as well as Rutgers University, Michigan State University, Arizona State University and Blinn College.

Judy Perkins will serve as center director.
