State Council Seeks to Update Mobile App

The new version will port the existing one and offer more features and a better user experience.

A Texas council has issued a request for information (RFI) for mobile application development and support services.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) mobile application compliments the ercot.com website with limited workflow to deliver mobile-specific content and timely notifications to the public and to market participants.

The current application is a native mobile application delivering content through a dedicated set of Mobile APIs, and notifications are handled through Airship integration.

The current mobile app includes:
  • Some links to the ERCOT.com website.
  • No authentication required.
  • Base iOS and Android.

The objective is to port the existing native iOS and Android application to a cross-development platform with additional features and enhance navigation to provide better user experience.

The ERCOT internal design is developing the redesign scope.

The new version of the mobile app will include:
  • Push notifications.
  • Data visualizations.
  • Caching of API data to engage users as soon as the app is opened.
  • The ability to refresh app while it is opened.
  • The ability to have embedded browser to access external site links.
  • Supporting various screen sizes of iOS and Android device types including tablet screen size.
  • Supporting landscape and portrait modes.

The sole point of contact is Jason Terrell, ERCOT 2705 West Lake Drive Taylor, Texas 76574. Responses are due Nov. 08.
