The Texas Cyber Command (TXCC) is hiring cybersecurity analysts to support its threat intelligence and incident response operations as it continues standing up statewide cyber capabilities.
Two open positions, listed as Cybersecurity Analyst II roles under the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR), support the ongoing build-out of the command’s technical units. One focuses on threat research and intelligence collection, while the other supports defensive operations and incident response. Both will operate within the Office of the State Chief Information Security Officer and are part of a long-term transition to centralize cybersecurity functions under TXCC by December 2026.
According to the postings, the roles are designed for change-makers — cybersecurity professionals who want to help shape the future of the state’s defense posture. The analysts will contribute to the development of the statewide Cybersecurity Incident Response Team, a critical capability tasked with preparing Texas for cyber attacks and responding to them when they occur. The work includes threat analysis, vulnerability communication and coordination with diverse partners across Texas government.
The threat researcher position supports proactive cyber defense by tracking adversaries, producing intelligence assessments and monitoring malicious activity. The operations-focused role will help develop and tune defensive tools, conduct hunts for indicators of compromise and assist in managing detection technologies like endpoint detection and response and security information and event management systems.
Both positions are based in San Antonio, with Austin as an optional location, and require at least five years of IT or security experience, including three in cybersecurity. Preferred qualifications include malware analysis, YARA and Sigma rules and knowledge of advanced threats. The monthly salary range for each is $7,833 to $8,025. Applications are due by Oct. 18.
TXCC is in the process of absorbing cybersecurity personnel and responsibilities from DIR and standing up three technical units: the Cyber Threat Intelligence Center, the Incident Response Unit and a statewide Digital Forensics Lab.
