The Texas Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has launched a modernized child support enforcement system called ChAMP (Children Are My Priority), replacing a mainframe system that had been in place for more than 30 years.
According to a press release from OAG, the new system has processed 3.1 million payments totaling $614 million since going live on June 12, exceeding the annual disbursement totals of 35 other states. The transition supports Texas’ role as the nation’s largest child support program, managing 1.5 million cases.
Built as a secure, cloud-based system, ChAMP is designed to improve reliability, accessibility and long-term scalability. As part of the launch, OAG also introduced two self-service portals aimed at improving user access and communication.
The system’s customer self-service portal, which allows parents to log in at any time to view case information and receive communications from the agency, received more than 1 million logins in its first month. The system also includes an employer portal, supporting more than 100,000 employers across the state.
Attorney General Ken Paxton described the launch as a "significant milestone" and said the new system represents a major investment in the long-term success of Texas families.
“This system modernizes the core of our child support operations, empowering our staff with better tools and giving parents the timely support and information they deserve,” said Paxton. “My office will continue to prioritize innovation that directly helps the children of Texas because fighting for them and their future will always be at the forefront of the work we do.”
The new ChAMP system is just the latest advancement OAG has made in recent years. In 2024, OAG streamlined processes within its Child Support Division with the help of a search tool powered by artificial intelligence.
