Below is a breakdown of each department’s requests and how much they’ll cost.
BRIDGE DEPARTMENT
Laredo’s Bridge Department oversees the crossing of all freight and import-export trade through the Port of Laredo.
According to the city’s FY 2022-2023 proposed budget, the department was awarded $29,012,709 for bridge construction capital outlay requests.
In the city’s proposed 2023-2027 capital improvement plan, the department listed the following fund allocations and projects:
- $1.11 million to replace its toll system customer service center infrastructure hardware.
- $688,000 to install new surveillance servers, cameras and access controls to enter secured areas at all bridge facilities.
- $350,000 for data migration and implementation to the department’s back-office system hardware.
- $125,000 to install an upgraded computer domain and data repository.
- $112,000 to install new audio and video equipment in the department’s Bridge 1 conference room.
- $53,000 to install a cellular booster to amplify the signal and LTE data.
INFORMATION SERVICES AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT
The Information Services and Telecommunications department has 11 divisions and manages the city’s technology services, infrastructure and telecommunications.
The department’s proposed budget for FY 2022-2023 is $6,475,682. It has allocated a portion of these funds to achieve the following:
- $600,000 to implement backhaul wireless radio links to connect critical city sites.
- $250,000 to implement a citywide access control system for the physical security of 60 city building entry points.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Lastly, the city’s fire department tends to all fire, medical emergencies and other natural or man-made disasters. The department has a proposed budget of $61 million for FY 2021-2022 and has allocated the following to achieve the projects listed below:
- $350,000 for a Dräger Phase 5 live training system.
- $103,320 to install T1 lines for fiber optics for stations 10,11,12 and 14.
