Tracking the Spend: Health and Human Services Commission

The social services agency spent $24.9 million in the IT services product category during October.

State agencies spent $432.1 million across IT-related spending categories in October, with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) spending $69.3 million.

HHSC oversees various programs and organizations, including clinics, health organizations and resource centers; foster care; Medicaid; the children’s health insurance program; Medicare; palliative care; and women and children’s services.

Here, rounded up, are the agency’s top five vendors listed under the IT services product category, according to the comptroller’s “Payments to Payee” visualization:

  • $7.6 million to Deloitte Consulting LLP, which provides audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk management and tax services
  • $2.7 million to Insight Public Sector, which provides hardware, software and cloud solutions and services
  • $2.6 million to Vexcel Corp., a subsidiary of Microsoft that provides end-to-end solutions
  • $1.5 million to Conduent State Healthcare, which provides health-care systems to help reduce costs, create engagement and advance health equity
  • $894,967 to SHI Government Solutions Inc., which offers software products and related maintenance, technical and training services

Regarding specific expenditures across IT-related categories, HHSC spent $26 million on professional services, $12 million on maintenance and repairs, and $5 million on rentals and leases.
