The Texas Division of Emergency Management, which ensures the state and its local governments respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters, spent $820.89 million in calendar year 2021.
According to the Texas IT Spending Dashboard on Industry Insider — Texas, the division’s largest spend during that time went to purchased contracted services, at $805.33 million.
The second-largest spend was on rental of furnishings and equipment, at $5.45 million. Coming in at No. 3 was personal property — telecommunications equipment — expensed at $2.8 million.
Those top three categories accounted for about 99 percent of the division’s 2021 expenditures.
Falling just out of the top three were communication services ($2.3 million) and IT services ($1.17 million).
By comparison, the Division of Emergency Management spent $333.77 million in calendar year 2020.
The department’s top spend in that calendar year was purchased contracted services at $323.79 million.
The second-largest spend in that year was for communication services at $2.07 million. Coming in at No. 3 was personal property — computer equipment — capitalized at $1.54 million.
Those top three categories accounted for about 98 percent of the division’s 2020 expenditures.
IT services was ninth that calendar year, at $556,575.
