Hankins officially began leading the department’s infrastructure operations, which includes oversight of server environments, cloud systems, data centers and end-user computing, in November.
Before joining TxDOT, Hankins held several leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. Most recently, he spent more than three years with Apollo Information Systems, where he served in multiple executive capacities.
Hankins’ public-sector career includes service as the state of Texas’ cybersecurity coordinator and as director of security for the Shared Technology Services program at the Texas Department of Information Resources between 2017 and 2021.
Earlier in his career, Hankins managed enterprise identity and access management at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and served in multiple technical positions at the Texas Attorney General’s Office, where his titles included solutions architect and network specialist. His time at the Attorney General's Office spanned nearly eight years across two tenures.
“He has consistently demonstrated his ability to manage and innovate,” TxDOT CIO Anh Selissen wrote in a LinkedIn post. “Notably, Daniel has played several roles in the Texas Data Center Services contracts, contributing to the consolidation and standardization of information technology across the state.”
Hankins holds a Bachelor of Science in IT management and a Master of Business Administration, both from Western Governors University.
