The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has issued a request for offers (RFO) for an artificial intelligence (AI) upgrade to its traffic monitoring system.
According to the RFO, TxDOT is seeking a software-as-a-service AI platform that can detect traffic incidents, using new and existing data sources to provide incident notifications in as close to real time as possible.
The chosen vendor must help expand TxDOT’s current system statewide while providing optional enhancements to the agency’s existing traffic monitoring system in Austin.
The vendor must also integrate video from TxDOT systems and provide a crash prediction algorithm, an incident verification process, a live roadway map and an included data source for vehicle telematic data.
According to HB 1, TxDOT has $55.4 million in its 2024-25 capital budget for technology replacements and upgrades.
