The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has issued a pre-solicitation notice for a traffic monitoring system upgrade and enhancements.

According to the notice, TxDOT is looking to implement and expand a cloud-based, software-as-a-service AI system that “combines historical crash data, real-time connected vehicle data and other data sources to alert the traffic management center of potential roadway incidents, such as crashes, abandoned vehicles, roadway debris and more.”

The department’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan lists optimization of system performance as one of its main objectives, with establishing a statewide integrated traffic management system and improving traffic information.

Although TxDOT’s capital budget does not specifically mention a traffic monitoring system upgrade, it does include $75.1 million for information and systems modernization as well as $55.4 million for technology replacements and upgrades.

More detailed information about pre-solicitation No. Pre-601440000043068, which expires June 9, can be found online. Nora Ochoa is the point of contact for this notice.
