The University of Texas System (UT System) is hiring a deputy chief information officer to help lead internal information services, IT strategy and technology operations across UT System Administration.
Public UT System organizational charts and leadership directories currently identify William Huang as deputy chief information officer. Those same materials list David Crain as associate vice chancellor and chief information officer.
The person chosen will serve as deputy CIO of the internal UT System Administrative Office of Information Services and be responsible for information systems activities including systems analysis, programming, computer operations and auxiliary operations. They will also be charged with setting policies, procedures, technical standards, methods and priorities while managing the liaison between information systems and other UT System functions.
Responsibilities include leading technology strategies, initiatives and operations, assisting the associate vice chancellor and CIO with strategic planning, governance oversight, project and portfolio management, and service delivery management. The deputy CIO will also help guide IT Shared Services and provide executive-level leadership in technology administration areas with systemwide impact.
Additional duties include leading planning and implementation of IT initiatives, coordinating with units such as contracting, audit, compliance, information security and privacy, and overseeing Applications, Client Services and Infrastructure teams. The position also manages work plans, budgets, performance measures, staff development and long-term technology planning.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of IT or comparable leadership experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in similar multi-institutional entities. A master’s degree is preferred. The role requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT System Administration and its infrastructure.
The full-time, exempt position is based in Austin within Systemwide Information Services. Salary is commensurate with experience. The recruitment will continue until the position is filled.
