The University of Texas System (UT System) has chosen George Finney as its new chief information security officer.
With more than 20 years of experience in cybersecurity, Finney, founder and CEO of Well Aware Security and senior fellow at CyberTheory, will be responsible for the security of the system’s nine academic institutions and five health institutions.
Finney received his master’s degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Dallas before receiving his Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University, where he served as chief security officer for nine years.
According to the UT System website, Finney has been recognized numerous times for his work in cybersecurity, including the Malcolm Baldrige Award for Cybersecurity Leadership in 2024 and a spot on CISOs Connect’s Top 100 CISOs of 2023.
