The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to replace, consolidate and modernize its real-time emergency alert communications system.

With more than 34,000 students and about 7,000 employees, UTSA is the largest university in the San Antonio metropolitan region.

The successful proposer must present a solution that can integrate with the university’s existing infrastructure, which is comprised of multiple vendors, and incorporate UTSA’s branding.

According to the RFP, UTSA’s current emergency system includes “Rave for emergency messaging, Alertus for e-panic button and desktop notification functionalities and LiveSafe for the mobile application.”

Proposed systems must employ a variety of communication channels, including SMS, email, voice calls, desktop notifications and a mobile application, which should address targeted alerts and two-way communication.

Additionally, emergency information, business closures due to inclement weather and other operational updates are also shared on official university social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram and Facebook.

More detailed information about RFP No. 743-2023-RFP-1048, including all minimum requirements and additional submission instructions, can be found online.

The due date for proposals is Dec. 1 at 2:30 p.m. Robin Davis is the point of contact for this RFP.
