Uvalde County to Join Regional Emergency Radio Network

The Austin City Council voted to create an interlocal agreement for the county to use the radio system known as GATRRS.

The Greater Austin/Travis County Regional Radio System (GATRRS) is expanding to include Uvalde County, according to a KVUE-Austin report.

The system is used by 43 counties, as well as state and federal agencies.

The Austin City Council approved several items relating to the Communications and Technology Management (CTM) Department, which has radio communications under its purview. The department has a $144.7 million budget.

Council authorized an interlocal agreement for Uvalde County to access and use the GATRRS master site core computer server and related software and equipment.

Uvalde County has about 25,000 residents.
