The city of Waco is in the beginning stages of a technology-driven transportation overhaul known as the Waco Smart Corridor Plan.
According to a request for qualifications (RFQ) released by the city, the Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is currently searching for transportation research centers, academic institutions with relevant areas of expertise or similarly qualified vendors to oversee the development of the project in its entirety.
The city’s vision for its new smart corridor involves an extensive integration of smart technology applications in each aspect of its development.
The project will involve developing “a comprehensive framework for sustainable, equitable and technology-driven transportation solutions” for a nine-mile stretch that includes portions of U.S. Highway 84 and urban, transition and suburban areas.
Tech integrations the city has envisioned for the corridor include intelligent traffic systems, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication and real-time transit tracking.
The selected advisory institution will be responsible for coordinating with the city and other necessary contractors on the creation of the plan, which will be used to inform the corridor’s future development.
More detailed information about RFQ2025-026, including all submission requirements and requests, can be found online. Questions are due at 5 p.m. March 28. The deadline for submissions is 2 p.m. April 10. Paul Campos is the point of contact for this RFQ.
