Wichita Falls Grants IT Department $5M Budget

The city of Wichita Falls has approved its Fiscal Year 2026 budget, setting aside $5 million for its Information Technology Department.

The IT Fund supports both operations and infrastructure, including staffing, maintenance, licensing and $355,000 in capital projects. Those projects cover network upgrades, server replacements and cybersecurity improvements.

In addition, the city’s capital plan identifies $502,000 for computers and related equipment in FY2026. Together with the IT fund allocation, Wichita Falls will spend about $860,000 on technology capital projects next year.

Technology investments are not limited to the IT department. Several city functions will implement new tools aimed at improving service delivery and operational efficiency. Planned enhancements include:
  • An Integrated Document Imaging Archive module to improve records management
  • GPS tracking systems to support fleet oversight
  • Safety and compliance tracking software for regulatory workflows
  • Digital engagement platforms for public-facing services
Looking ahead, the city’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan allocates $8.1 million for computers and related equipment, along with $84,000 for software.

City officials said the combination of near-term capital projects and long-term funding commitments will help modernize Wichita Falls’ IT infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and ensure reliable services across departments.
