SmokeD, an early wildfire detection system developer, is relocating its headquarters to Austin following the launch of its Austin Wildfire Detection Project, a coalition comprised of companies and individuals who sponsor wildfire detectors in the area.
According to a press release, the SmokeD fire detection system, which notifies users upon detection through a free mobile application, uses “artificial intelligence and sensitive optical sensors to provide improved fire and smoke detection accuracy with the capability to precisely pinpoint the fire location within a 10-mile radius.”
SmokeD has had its wildfire detectors in the Austin area since 2021 and is in the process of installing additional devices on American Tower antenna systems, which will bring its detection system coverage to 41 towers between Marble Falls and Bastrop upon installation.
“We would like to see our headquarters in Austin as a place for technology development but also as a headquarters for sales and marketing activities worldwide,” SmokeD founder and CEO Artur Matuszczak said in a statement to Industry Insider — Texas.
“Fires are a global problem, so we can not only act locally, but future cooperation with local authorities and public institutions is crucial for users of our early detection system," he said.
Founded three years ago in Warsaw, Poland, SmokeD has since deployed its fire detection systems in California, Arizona and Texas, as well as in Europe, Indonesia and Brazil.
“Since Texas is a hotbed for wildfires, public awareness of wildfire prevention is high,” Matuszczak said. “Austin presents a great opportunity for us to establish partnerships with other businesses looking to give back to their community through a shared mission to protect property and people in the greater Austin area.”
