The Center for Digital Government survey commends cities using innovative technology for better government. These were the top finishers among California municipalities.
The awards celebrate achievements and best practices from U.S. states, counties, cities and federal agencies and departments. They recognize communities that have gone beyond simply using the Web to radically improve upon the experience of government and are pushing the boundaries of how services are delivered.
The annual initiative, put on by the Center for Digital Government, recognizes the achievements and best practices of states, cities and counties that are radically improving the experience of government and pushing the boundaries of how citizen services are delivered. From California, two cities and three counties were recognized.
An evaluation committee reviewed nominations in the three categories, and California districts placed well in the West region. Nominations were submitted by the public and private sectors, and three categories were available — Citizens, Operations and Leadership.
The program was established to recognize California state and local government and education organizations for their dedication, hard work and contributions in information technology. All government and education officials, executives and staff in California are invited to submit nominations. An Evaluation Committee will review submissions and select recipients.

In its 16th year, the Best of California Awards recognize public-sector professionals and innovative service delivery and use of emerging technologies to improve citizen services.
