July 6: Bidders Conference for Vendor Hosted Storage Subscription Services

An invitation for bid is inviting vendors to submit proposals offering backup storage-as-a-service off premises or on premises to customers in state and local government and education.

The California Department of Technology is hosting a bidders conference next week for Backup Secondary Storage Services offered through the department's Vendor Hosted Subscription Services portfolio.

The time and location: Wednesday, July 6, starting at 1 p.m. at the Department of Technology Training Center at 10860 Gold Center Drive in Rancho Cordova.

Released on June 17, the bid is inviting vendors to submit proposals offering backup storage-as-a-service off premises or on premises to customers in state and local government and education.

Storage-as-a-service (STaaS) will join other services — infrastructure as a service, Web hosting, Project and Portfolio Management, Remedy on Demand and Customer Relationship Management — in the department's portfolio of Vendor Hosted Subscription Services (VHSS).

In the VHSS model, customers pay a prenegotiated rate and pay as they go. The Department of Technology acts as a service broker.

The Department of Technology sought input on its STaaS offering from the vendor community through a Request for Information sent out in April. Final bids are due August 5.

The Department of Technology is asking all bidders who plan to go to the bidders conference to submit an RSVP form by email to marisa.duarte-lott@state.ca.gov by close of business on July 6.
