Town-Hall Discussions on FirstNet Begin July 16 in Lakeport

FirstNet is the independent government authority spearheading the federal government’s plan to launch a nationwide public safety communications network.

Public safety officials are invited to attend the state’s first town-hall discussion on the nationwide public safety broadband network. The meeting, hosted by the California Office of Emergency Services, is scheduled on Wednesday, July 16, beginning at 10 a.m. in Lakeport.

Those who attend will hear directly from a FirstNet representative about FirstNet’s national service vision, service offers and applications; learn about California’s developments and current initiatives; hear how FirstNet will impact public safety communications; and other local perspectives. Other topics will include the network’s cost and when it might be available.

FirstNet is the independent government authority spearheading the federal government’s plan to launch a nationwide public safety communications network. Its mission was authorized in congressional legislation signed into law in 2012.

Congress has allocated spectrum in the 700 MHz band and up to $7 billion for construction of the FirstNet network.

The July 16 public meeting is at the Lakeport Superior Courthouse, Board of Supervisors Chambers, 255 Forbes St.

Space is limited. Register to attend by email at CalFRN@caloes.ca.gov or call (916) 657-9172. You can also view the discussion remotely via WebEX by registering at https://pscdmeetings.webex.com/mw0401l/mywebex/default.do?siteurl=pscdmeetings

Future town hall-style meetings are planned for future dates in Bakersfield, Santa Ana and Vacaville.
