SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California’s recently retired CIO, Liana Bailey-Crimmins, has joined e.Republic’s Center for Digital Government as a senior fellow.
The news broke during the California Public Sector CIO Academy Tuesday morning in Sacramento.
Bailey-Crimmins stepped away from her nearly four decades in public service April 6. She had served as the director of the California Department of Technology (CDT) and state CIO since 2022, but her public service career spans back to 1987, where she started as student assistant with the Department of Water Resources (DWR).
“When I say that I worked myself from the tape room to the board room, I mean it,” the former CIO said in her remarks.
Bailey-Crimmins, and CDT more broadly, were instrumental parts of the state’s digital response to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, and she has been an outspoken proponent of responsible technology in service of constituents.
She was awarded an Excellence in Leadership Award for her extensive public service career during the morning remarks.
“The work that you've done and the innovation that you've worked so hard to make happen really has benefited everybody here in the state, and you should be very proud of the work that you did,” e.Republic’s Chief Delivery Officer Phil Bertolini said.
The state has not formally announced her interim replacement as of Tuesday afternoon.
*e.Republic is the parent company of Industry Insider — California and the Center for Digital Government. The company also hosts the California Public Sector CIO Academy event.
