His new role is managing director for state and local government for Box.
“It’s an exciting opportunity,” Masood told Techwire. “I’m focused on enhancing our go-to-market strategies, solutions and value propositions for state and local government, including state, counties, cities, special districts and utilities, both in the U.S. and across the globe.”
Masood noted, “I have both in-seat as well as consulting experience in that segment, so this is an ability to bring together my experiences, and I’m really excited about that. Mostly I will be focused in engaging with county CIOs, state CIOs, city CIOs, and looking at how Box content management can bring security solutions, seamless integrations with enterprise applications, and a high degree of collaboration, both internally and externally.
“In this new normal that we find ourselves in, with a hybrid workforce being a reality as we move forward beyond the pandemic, interoperability between enterprise platforms is becoming more central to a CIO’s strategy ¯ and overall, how do they secure those crown jewels? I think Box has a key role to play in that, and I look forward to enhancing that value proposition for them.”
Masood, whose early professional background was as a software architect before he got into management, said he and Box are focused immediately on innovation and expansion.
“I can take what’s already proven in the public sector and then repeat that globally. I’m looking forward to expanding what has worked for us in key accounts, like the public defender in L.A. County, or Office of the Attorney General in D.C., and taking that nationwide. We’re looking to expand into use cases and turnkey solutions ... expanding what’s already proven, and innovating to come up with new turnkey solutions.”
As for collaboration or opportunities to partner with other companies, Masood said: “If they’re in the local or state government space, either as a customer or a partner, I’m the guy to talk to.” Masood said he welcomes email outreach from those in the public and private sectors.
Before his affiliations with Box, Tridens and L.A. County, Masood had worked in management and executive roles with private-sector companies including Jouve Aviation Solutions, WAVE Technology Solutions Group and Lexipol.
While with Los Angeles County, Masood was part of a three-person team that was honored in 2019 as among Government Technology’s* “Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers" for their work in innovation and automation.
The trilingual (English, Punjabi and Urdu) Orange County resident received his bachelor of science degree in management information systems from Winona State University and his master’s in business administration and management from the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine.
