Educational Apprenticeship Grants
SB-923: Educational apprenticeships: This act would create the Educational Apprenticeship Innovation Act, and institute a competitive grant, for purposes of promoting apprenticeships, pre-apprenticeships, and career pathways among local educational agencies, institutions of higher education, and businesses. The bill would focus on the state’s fastest-growing economic sectors including advanced manufacturing, computer technology and IT services, energy efficiency, clean technology, nursing and health care services, entertainment, culinary arts and hospitality, and banking and financial services. A hearing is scheduled for June 25th in the Assembly Education Committee.

K-12 Computer Science Curricula
AB-1530: Model curricula: computer science. This bill would require the Superintendent of Public Instruction to submit by July 1, 2017, K-12 model curricula on computer science to the State Board of Education for adoption. “Computer science education is not just about access to computers or about preparing pupils to be passive users of technology,” states the bill, “it is about preparing pupils to be innovative creators of new technologies.” On June 17, the bill was amended, and re-referred to the Senate Rules Committee.
