The purpose of this invitation-only public-sector event, sponsored by Techwire sister publication Government Technology*, is to serve as a platform for discussion on what it means to be a successful IT executive in the public sector and to provide tools and strategies to assist current and emerging leaders.
“This event is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for government and industry to collaborate and address the most important policy, management and leadership issues surrounding the future of digital government,” the event announcement notes.
The annual event features numerous breakout sessions, with leaders from the public and private sectors addressing a gamut of topics relevant to those who work in and serve government in California. The event is sponsored by 49 companies in the tech sector.
Two of the announced key speakers for this year’s event are:
- Roddy Chong, a virtuoso violinist who’s toured with such musical luminaries as Celine Dion, Shania Twain, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. As a speaker, Chong helps leaders, teams, organizations and individuals realize their potential to consistently produce encore performances beyond the stage. “He covers what he has learned about himself when performing in the crucible of thousands of stages in front of live audiences, and what he has learned from people in the industry – those who have succeeded and those who have failed,” according to the event announcement. His topic for this event will be “Comfort in the Uncomfortable.”
- Steve Uzzell, a nationally renowned photographer whose background includes editorial roles with National Geographic magazine and who now focuses on advertising and corporate photography, with clients including airlines and car makers. Uzzell’s topic for this event will be “Open Roads Open Minds.”
Last year’s CIO Academy was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the event will be held at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento. Techwire will be on hand, covering the speakers and breakouts and interviewing public-sector IT leaders. More information can be found on the Government Technology website.
