California State University System Names Preferred Lecture Capture Provider

The California State University System and Sonic Foundry announced a new partnership, under which the company’s lecture capture solution, Mediasite, will be made available to all 23 university campuses.

The California State University System (CSU) and Sonic Foundry announced a new partnership, under which the company’s lecture capture solution, Mediasite, will be made available to all 23 university campuses.

Following the signing of a Master Enable Agreement with Sonic Foundry and CSU, Mediasite is now one of two preferred lecture capture solutions for the entire university system. Nine campuses are already using the system, including the San Marcos campus, CSU Fullerton School of Nursing and San Diego State University.

The new partnership extends the university’s existing relationship with the company, having named Sonic Foundry CSU’s preferred video content management solution last April. As a result of the two agreements, Mediasite is the only solution to offer CSU both lecture capture and video content management.

“The success of our students is positively impacted with a seamless and easy-to-use lecture capturing solution that allows us to capture and share the educational content from inside our lecture halls,” Jean-Pierre Bayard, CSU director of system-wide learning technologies and program services, said in an announcement. “After reviewing dozens of other solutions, we chose Sonic Foundry’s Mediasite based on a range of quality, affordable and scalable tools for our academic video needs.”

Lecture capture systems allow instructors to record lessons and classroom activity to then share with students digitally. Mediasite provides the ability to include various sources, such as smartboards and secondary source links in recordings, and also offers the My Mediasite application, which will provide CSU students the ability to access the captured lectures via a desktop or mobile device.
