These 10 acquisition methods were the most popular in calendar year 2017, according to the State Contract & Procurement Registration System.
About 50 percent of the acquisition methods are competitive in one way or another, whether that is a California Multiple Award Schedules(CMAS) procurement, competitive bid or statewide contract.
Around 40 percent were statewide contracts, or contracts that were developed so that multiple departments or local governments can gain services without having to individually negotiate, harnessing economies of scale.
There is a process for state departments to request statewide contracts for new services. But the number of contracts applicable across multiple departments will continue to grow since the California Department of Technology has begun working with vendors to act as a distributor of services, especially as-a-service offerings. CDT is also creating pre-approved pools of vendors, similar to Master Agreements.
