CalPERS Security Road Map Enterprise Identity System is complete, according to the organization’s Chief Information Officer Report to the Board on Sept. 19.

The $3.3 million project took just under three years to complete and came in slightly under budget, with a total estimated cost of $3.32 million.

The new system provided oversight for an Identity Access Management (IAM) program and migrated all application and infrastructures for request workflows to ServiceNow. The previous workflow system is now a read-only version to comply with data archival regulations.

The new system unifies all identity access and includes a policy and procedure manual to support and educate users.

According to the report, business benefits include:

  • Reduces costs by centralizing IAM across the Enterprise
  • Increases the efficacy of access certification and compliance efforts for risk management
  • Reduces IAM system complexity and increases overall solution sustainability
  • Increases accuracy of user access requests
  • Improves timeliness of authorized access to systems and data
  • Improves identity life cycle workload and process efficiencies
