The California Public Employees' Retirement System completed its "my|CalPERS" database encryption project later than anticipated, according to the most recent chief information officer’s report.
The effort took an additional two months because it shared a timeline with the Infrastructure Modernization Evaluation project. That project provided database clones to the "my|CalPERS" system for encryption.
The $640,092 project was meant to mitigate security risks by identifying and encrypting sensitive information and creating an encryption solution across all "my|CalPERS" databases, specific to CalPERS' needs.
While assessing security risks, the staff also developed a series of lessons learned to assist in avoiding litigation and data loss incidents, according to the report.
The project, which matures CalPERS' security stance, took a little over two years.
