Candidates Sought for State Leadership Positions in Technology

Recruitments are underway for chief roles in the California Fair Political Practices Commission, the California Department of Social Services and the California Department of State Hospitals.

State government departments are recruiting for technology executives and specialists.

The California Fair Political Practices Commission is seeking a chief (Career Executive Assignment) of Administration and Information Technology to serve as the principal policymaker responsible for managing, providing leadership and developing, implementing and recommending policy for the commission’s administrative functions.

The commission works to “promote the integrity of state and local government in California through fair, impartial interpretation and enforcement of political campaign, lobbying and conflict-of-interest laws.”

The chief functions as the chief administrative officer of the commission and is “responsible for the overall policy development and management of the commission’s fiscal operations, financial budgets and forecasts, accounting, financial reporting, human resources, payroll, contracting, purchasing, insurance and risk management, information technology, and cash control functions,” according to the job posting and duty statement. The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) is seeking a project oversight chief (Career Executive Assignment) to lead the Project Oversight Branch. The branch is responsible for project management, business analysis and project oversight and oversees small, medium and large internal and statewide projects to streamline and automate services and programs.

The chief, according to the job posting, provides policy guidance and leadership for the department’s IT projects and establishes IT priorities ensuring that new systems and IT initiatives align with the strategic plan. The chief is also responsible for providing direction and guidance on IT enterprise projects and opportunities that support CDSS programs and goals.

The California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) is seeking a chief (IT Manager II) of the IT Business Management Section, an executive management role influencing organizational IT policy and formulating long-range IT programs and objectives.

The chief, according to the job posting, works “with internal department customers, technical personnel and management in providing expertise to successfully plan, execute, report, monitor and close projects and contracts critical to the department’s goals, in addition to IT asset management services and IT budget and procurement services for the enterprise.”

In addition, the chief ensures that “project management best practices, processes and procedures are consistently applied to all IT projects following the California Project Management Methodology (CA-PMM) and the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).” The chief also “ensures that the best practices, processes and procedures follow the Business Analysis Community of Practice and the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK).”
