CDT Accepting Applications for Information Security Leadership Academy

“We are excited to bring back this academy for its sixth year and meet the needs of our evolving public-sector workforce by offering most of it remotely,” said Crystal Holcomb, deputy director of the Office of Professional Development.

For public-sector technologists working in information security, the application period has opened for the California Department of Technology’s Information Security Leadership Academy (ISLA).

ISLA trains and prepares candidates for “the critical roles of information security officer, agency information security officer or an expanded role within their department’s security office.”

The academy selects students from state, county, city agencies and departments in California who are involved in information security. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. May 31. To be considered, applications must include authorization from the applicant’s chief information officer.

“We are excited to bring back this academy for its sixth year and meet the needs of our evolving public-sector workforce by offering most of it remotely,” Crystal Holcomb, deputy director of CDT’s Office of Professional Development, told Industry Insider — California. “A few in-person sessions will be included so our students can connect and expand their networks.”

ISLA one of four academies and two boot camps that CDT offers to the public sector. The others are:
  • The Information Technology Leadership Academy (ITLA), considered the flagship of the state’s IT academies, “for those who wish to expand their leadership skills and business acumen.”
  • The Project Management Leadership Academy, “for public-sector IT professionals seeking to expand their project management and leadership skills.”
  • The Digital Services Leadership Academy, “designed to introduce the tools and skills required to transform a business problem from concept to product using sound design and development principles found in modern digital service development.”
  • Emerging IT Leaders Boot Camp, “geared for entry-level IT supervisors, new IT managers, or those functioning in a demonstrated lead capacity who wish to expand or refresh their foundational leadership skills.”
  • Cybersecurity Boot Camp, “for senior or managerial information security professionals who wish to expand or refresh their foundational skills in cybersecurity methodology and best practices.”

The next season of ISLA will run for nine weeks, starting July 31 and ending Sept. 28. It will provide preparation and an exam voucher for the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification.
