The California Department of Technology will have a new deputy chief information security officer beginning Jan. 2.
Vitaliy Panych will serve under Chief Information Security Officer Peter Liebert in the Office of Information Security. He is following in the footsteps of Scott Paterson, who now heads CDT's Office of Professional Development.
Panych was the chief information security officer for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) before moving to CDT. He has 15 years of public-sector experience, working for the Employment Development Department, the Franchise Tax Board and the Child Support Automation System.
Panych has led work on risk management, security operations and managing security maturity. While with CDCR, "Panych provided direction on information security and privacy across all of CDCR’s technology, institution operations, parole, internal affairs, facilities, education and administrative programs," says a press release from CDT.
He has also worked on building online application services for correctional safety, tax collection and benefit systems.
Along with a bachelor's from Sacramento State, Panych has security professional certifications.
