CDT publishes new rates for STaaS, VHSS

The state Department of Technology is implementing new rates beginning Sunday for Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) and Vendor Hosted Subscription Services (VHSS).

The state Department of Technology is implementing new rates beginning Sunday for Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) and Vendor Hosted Subscription Services (VHSS).

“STaaS On-Premises is a cloud storage solution provided by Enterprise Networking Solutions Inc. on a subscription, pay-per-use basis,” explains a memo issued last week by CDT. “The purpose of these rate changes is to provide new technologies to customers; and to establish new billing rates to recover the costs associated with providing these services.”

ENS-Inc. will install the infrastructure and connectivity at the CDT’s data centers.

“The STaaS will be available to customers with server environments located at the data center or a remote location,” the CDT memo says. “The STaaS provides four tiers of storage to meet the needs of our customers.”

Tiers I and II storage are fiber-channel connected for faster access and require the server environments to be housed at the data center. Tiers III and IV storage, primarily for secondary data and/or image files, is available via the State’s Wide Area Network using Internet protocol.

For Vendor-Hosted Subscription Services (VHSS), the CDT has executed contracts with specified vendors based on lines of business for their subscription-based services. CDT passes on to subscribing customers the vendor’s service charges, plus the CDT’s administrative and technical overhead costs. The fee is intended to recover the cost of onboarding and administering the service.

According to CDT, VHSS offers customers a number of benefits:

  • The ability to leverage their department’s data center budget line item
  • Eliminates the need for departments to perform a formal procurement
  • Provides for negotiated enterprise service level agreements
  • Provides a better understanding of the state’s portfolio for subscription services
  • Ease of onboarding
  • Volume pricing
  • Compliance with Cloud First Policy (SAM 4983) and Government Code 11545-46.
