Ivy Teng Lei, the state’s first chief digital strategy officer, has left the post after approximately two years with the California Department of Technology (CDT).

Lei joined CDT in March 2024, coming to the department from the Aspen Institute, where she served as a tech executive leadership initiative fellow within the Tech Policy Hub.

Prior to her fellowship work there, she held several executive leadership positions with Exygy, was the board president for the Digital Services Coalition, a rare fellow with Google Social Impact, a women in leadership fellow with Coro Northern California, among many others.

In a post on LinkedIn, Lei noted that she will be moving to Los Angeles and is interested in plugging into “events for good doers,” or those focused on civic tech, social impact, justice, immigration, etc.

“I’m excited to find my people in a new, vibrant, diverse city,” she said in the post.

Lei holds a Bachelor of Arts in corporate communications and mathematics from Baruch College.

CDT has seen several C-suite departures in recent weeks, including CIO and CDT Director Liana Bailey-Crimmins, Chief Technology Officer Jonathan Porat, and most recently, Deputy Chief Technology Innovation Officer Blaine Wasylkiw.

Lei confirmed her departure via email, but declined to comment further on her time with CDT.
