Child Welfare Digital Services Updates Legislature on Progress

The Child Welfare Digital Services project is the effort to replace the legacy child welfare records management and associated systems.

Because the project is based on an agile development and user-centered method, including multiple sprint teams that work on parts of the overall projects on tight deadlines, it is closely watched. As part of this effort to supervise and learn from this newer methodology, the project reports to the California Legislature every quarter.

Here are some details from the most recent report, released on March 22.

As of March 6, a search bar similar to Google’s was released to allow users to find “crucial child welfare history maintained in the legacy system,” according to the legislative presentation. Important pieces of that history can be chosen and displayed on Snapshot, an at-a-glance feature released in February, that allows users to save time.

These are some of the components that have been designed in the new system:

  • Relationship mapping
  • Child Profile
  • Landing Page
  • Facility Search, Profile and Management
  • State Licensing Features
  • Hotline Screening
  • Allegations Records
  • Investigations Records

The project plans to deliver identity management products from Amazon Web Services Cognito to core counties beginning May 1.

May 30 will see counties completing the registration process and testing “the stability of the new technical infrastructure” the presentation read.
