The growing role of women in IT leadership is an undeniable trend, yet much remains to be done.
That’s the message behind an event planned for the evening of Thursday, Nov. 9 by the Sacramento chapter of Women in Technology International (WITI), in which Chris Cruz, the state’s deputy CIO, will be among the speakers and panelists.
The event is especially timely, coming just after two key state CIOs — Rebecca Skarr of the Department of General Services, and Cathy Cleek, CIO of the state Franchise Tax Board — have announced their impending retirements.
Thursday’s WITI event, sponsored by Dell EMC, will feature a panel of IT leaders who will discuss the future of IT and the career issues affecting women working in the industry. Recruiters will also be on hand to offer resume critiques and career advice and discuss open positions.
“Of course,” WITI notes, “men are always welcome.”
In addition to hearing from Cruz, attendees will also hear from Jennifer Sommercamp, senior director of IT Program Delivery for Blue Shield of California; and Roy Mathew, a principal with Deloitte Consulting.
The event runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at Deloitte’s downtown office. WITI’s website has details on cost, location and registration information.
Thursday will be a busy day in Sacramento for Cruz and others in the IT field. Earlier that day, he will be among the speakers — along with state CIO Amy Tong; Joe Morris, vice president of Research for the Center for Digital Government; and Joe Panora, a Senior Fellow with the Center for Digital Government — at Techwire’s State of Technology California Industry Forum.
That event will include a market briefing and overviews of legislative policy, judicial technology and digital innovation.
