Departments Seeking Expertise in Network Architecture

Two departments in state government are seeking applicants for the positions, which are both classified as IT manager I roles. Both require leadership skills as well as extensive technical experience.

Two state agencies are recruiting for specialty technology positions related to architecture.

One of the positions is responsible for “managing and overseeing the overall network architectural design and engineering” of the department’s wide area networks (WANs) and local area networks (LANs). According to the job posting, the IT manager I “is required to demonstrate expertise in the areas of staff direction, team building and motivation, financial control, and achieving service delivery targets for quality and timeliness” for the position, which is with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

Desirable qualifications include:
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Aruba/HP ProCurve switches
  • Knowledge and experience with Aruba-OS CX
  • Experience creating and using Python scripts
  • Familiarity with Zscaler proxy systems
  • Familiarity with managed data centers
  • Experience supervising/managing technical teams of over 15 staff
  • Familiarity with F5 LTM/GTM/APM, Aruba Wireless and Cisco Wireless
  • Familiarity creating wireless site surveys using Ekahau site survey software
  • Familiarity with Juniper SRX firewalls

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) is recruiting for an enterprise architect manager (IT manager I) to “act as the chief architect to develop the enterprise architecture services provided by this unit.”

According to the job posting, “service request fulfillment includes requests for architecture work including legislative analysis and software approvals, IT strategic initiatives, business technology proposal requests, data architecture, data modeling, division technology road maps, administration of AD-supported software applications, security projects, technology prototyping, and facilitation of the architecture review board and product standards board.”
