Developing Opportunities: Correctional Health Care, L.A. County and More

The California Department of Correctional Health Care Services, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and the Orange County Sanitation District are among the state and local entities in the early stages of technology projects.

Before government technology procurements reach solicitation or proposal stage, public-sector organizations have likely spent many months doing their homework in earlier stage explorations like those detailed below.

Industry Insider — California regularly spotlights such endeavors in its Opportunities section. Here’s a look at several public-sector governmental entities with early-stage technology or innovation-related initiatives:
  • California Correctional Health Care Services, a department partially under the umbrella of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, has issued a request for information (RFI) seeking responses from vendors for an electronic health and dental records system, a software solution that is now available in the marketplace. The due date for responses has been extended from Nov. 11 to 4 p.m. Dec. 30.
  • The Orange County Sanitation District has released an RFI for a tool that will let staff export individual messages or blocks of messages for archival, from individual chats or team-based conversations in Microsoft Teams. The district does wastewater collection, treatment and disposal for about 2.6 million residents of central and northwest Orange County. Any ultimate award will be a lump sum. Responses are due by 2 p.m. Dec. 6.
  • The Coast Community College District, which comprises Coastline College, Golden West College and Orange Coast College, all in Orange County, has released its Adopted Budget for the 2023-2024 Fiscal Year. Marlene Drinkwine, vice chancellor of Finance and Administrative Services said in a Sept. 6 letter to the district chancellor that that includes $650 million in one-time funds for a discretionary block grant to address pandemic-related issues with a focus on technology.
  • The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works expects to release in December a procurement valued at $15 million, and seeking a qualified vendor to provide on-call professional public outreach and creative support services. These services will include media relations, event planning and logistical support, media training, graphic and web design and outreach and marketing support.
