DGS, Community Services Recruiting for Specialty Tech Roles

The Department of General Services is seeking a data and analytics manager, and the Department of Community Services and Development is recruiting for an information security officer.

Two departments in state government are recruiting for specialty positions.

The California Department of General Services, the business manager for state government, is seeking a data and analytics manager (IT Manager I) to manage and support the Data and Analytics Services section, overseeing departmental data and analytics services to all DGS programs, offices, divisions and client agencies, according to the job posting.

Additional duties and responsibilities, according to the duty statement, include:
  • Provide direction, guidance and leadership to supervisors and subordinate staff; plan and coordinate daily activities; establishes policies, standards and procedures for Data and Analytics Services based on best practices. Manage design, development and maintenance of data and analytics solutions to meet DGS’ business goals and objectives. (30 percent)
  • Develop unified vision for Data and Analytics Services; maintain operational direction in support of the vision by identifying the best solution option using industry knowledge services, academic sources, vendors, state technology forums and work groups; incorporate best practices including hybrid-agile development. (30 percent)
  • Establish and participate in ETS’ technology strategic planning by managing the business operations of the section through recommendation, development, implementation and enforcement of ETS policy, standards, processes, and procedures, and providing oversight and planning for the section’s budget and contract management. (15 percent)
  • Serve as a stakeholder for Data and Analytics Services and make decisions and recommendations regarding the technical architecture of data and analytics solutions in collaboration with other DGS departments. (10 percent)
  • Review feasibility and technical design documents in order to determine soundness and comprehensiveness of analysis and pertinence of the platform and solution selected to ensure effective delivery of new solutions for DGS customers. Write and provide oversight to staff in the development of procurement contracts and interagency agreements in order to produce statements of work and vendor evaluation criteria and guidelines. (10 percent)
  • Attend all mandated and recommended training and meetings in order to continue growth and learning as well as serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure industry standards are met and mandatory training is completed. (5 percent)

The monthly salary range for this position is $8,591 to $11,512, and the application deadline is Dec. 21.

The California Department of Community Services and Development (CSD) is seeking an information security officer (IT Specialist II) to plan, organize, direct and evaluate the activities of CSD’s Information Security Program.

CSD’s mission is “to reduce poverty for Californians by leading the development and coordination of effective and innovative programs for low-income individuals, families, and their communities.”

Duties of the role, according to the job posting and duty statement, include:
  • Participating in the planning, development and management of security incident responsibilities.
  • Developing and implementing policies and standards that address information security breaches.
  • Providing advice and technical assistance to management on information security-related issues.
  • Co-leading projects to determine the potential risk of exposure of all information assets.
  • Serving as a consultant on the implementation of laws, policies and standards regarding current information security; and serving as the liaison to all control agencies in communicating the department’s information security policies, incident responses and action plans.

The monthly salary range for this position is $7,893 to $10,576, and the application deadline is Dec. 16.
