DOJ Opens Recruitment for Legal Technology Officer

The California Department of Justice (DOJ) has opened recruitment for a legal technology officer (Career Executive Assignment) to “spearhead the department’s efforts in upgrading and implementing our legal technology software.”

According to the job posting, the LTO “will be responsible for directing the Case Management Section (CMS) and eDiscovery and Litigation Services (eDLS) Section, which includes decision-making authority for the overall development and implementation of legal technology and business functions.” The LTO will develop and oversee policies and strategic planning related to legal case management, billing, and eDiscovery and Litigation Services support.

Desirable qualifications for the role, according to the posting, include:
  • Experience managing large technology programs, especially in software and system engineering, made up of technical, professional, and other multidisciplinary staff.
  • Experience in developing and/or implementing legal technology modernization projects while collaborating with state control agencies.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing policies and procedures impacting legal case management, billing, and eDiscovery and Litigation Services support.
  • Ability to lead IT projects from inception through completion, ensuring compliance with the Project Approval Lifecycle (PAL) process, and aligning with departmental and state policies and IT governance.
  • Experience and ability to resolve escalated sensitive and complex issues at an executive level.
