The Employment Development Department is one step closer to a new HQ. CIO Ajit Girn announced major progress in the move in a post on LinkedIn.

The Employment Development Department is kicking off 2026 with new digs. The labor agency is in the process of transitioning from its old building on Capitol Mall to a new and improved facility on 9th Street in Sacramento.

In a post on LinkedIn, EDD CIO Ajit Girn said that the IT team and its partner agencies have been working to prepare and test the new facility for incoming tenants.

“EDD has a new home (1416 9th St.) and I am super proud of the IT teams!! They worked really hard to configure every network port, router, switch, workstation and to stand up managed print services, the asset reservation system, soft-phones and wireless,” he wrote. “The work continues as we quickly fix any remaining issues for [a] smooth transition from old to new building.”

Girn also announced that this work includes the elimination of hundreds of on-site servers housed in the old building. Those servers have either been moved to the cloud, decommissioned or transitioned to the California Department of Technology’s State Data Center.

“A lesser-known fact is that EDD’s on schedule to fully eliminate the on-site data center from the old building (94 percent completed),” he said in the post. “Hundreds of servers were migrated to the cloud, decommissioned or transitioned to the State Data Center. The new building operates with no data center — a major step in modernizing EDD’s technical infrastructure.”
