Grid Operator's New Website Tracks Emissions

The state's power grid overseer, the California Independent System Operator, has launched a Web page that tracks greenhouse gas emissions from resources used to generate electricity for about 30 million consumers.

The state's power grid overseer, the California Independent System Operator (ISO), has launched a Web page that tracks greenhouse gas emissions from resources used to generate electricity for about 30 million consumers.

“California has ambitious environmental goals, and now visitors to our website can see the results of those policies in real time and the long term,” said ISO President and CEO Steve Berberich. “This transparency can help drive policy-making and investments that continue the downward trend in emissions.”

Visitors to the website can access data dating to 2014 and identify trends on emissions output serving ISO load. They can also track progress on policies to reduce system emissions. The page contains links to additional data reports on emissions saved through the western Energy Imbalance Market, potential impacts of a fully integrated Western grid, as well as greenhouse gas reduction goals outlined by the California Air Resources Board.

The ISO recently launched its refreshed Today’s Outlook page showing real-time data on energy demand and supply, wholesale energy prices and performance of renewable energy resources.
