AI Regulation, Automation on Agenda for Little Hoover Hearing

The Artificial Intelligence Subcommittee of the state Little Hoover Commission will meet with government agencies and labor representatives Thursday to discuss the data that the state needs in order to prepare for the impacts of AI and automation.

The Artificial Intelligence Subcommittee of the state Little Hoover Commission will meet with government agencies and labor representatives Thursday morning to discuss the data that the state needs in order to prepare for the impacts of AI and automation.

"The Future of Work, Automation and Workforce Data" is an outgrowth of an effort that began in January, when the Little Hoover Commission, an independent state watchdog agency, called together experts from across disciplines to discuss how assertive the state should be in regulating AI. The goal of this week's hearing, according to an announcement from the commission, is "to allow stakeholders to share information on labor data and its current limitations, discuss potential changes in the workforce and brainstorm on how the state can create and obtain better information to inform its planning decisions."

Ultimately the commission will make recommendations to the Legislature.

The advisory committee meeting is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday in the Lower Level Conference Room, 925 L St., Sacramento. There will be a chance for public comments at the end of the session; notify commission staff if you wish to comment.
