Industry Group Shares California Tech Stats

California enjoys a $386 billion economic impact from the tech industry.

CompTIA, the industry group that “brought together the IT channel in order to create an open dialogue between IT vendors and partners,” released its cyberstate study this week, naming California first in innovation across the country and citing the sector's $396 billion industry impact.

The cyberstate study also looked at the kinds of technology jobs in each state.

The study ranked California seventh among the states in the percentage of workforce in tech, with 9.1 percent of workers in the industry.

Those workers make $161,900 on average, while other sectors average $64,100.

California has seen a 43,600-job gain in 2016-17. The country saw an increase of 194,000 jobs.

The national “strongest year-over-year job growth occurred in the categories of packaged software (up 13 percent); telecommunications and Internet services (up 4.1 percent); and IT services and custom software services (up 2.4 percent),” according to a press release about the study.

The national wage average in the tech industry is more than twice that of any other sector, at $112,890.
